Boarding and Raising
Buck Pond has been home to some of most famous Thoroughbred horses in the world. Spectacular Bid, Lord Avie, Drumtop, Group Plan, Manitoulin and Annihilate'Em were all raised on the beautiful pastures of Buck Pond Farm. Most recently, March Magic, Minnie Apple, Anet, and Ruler's Court were bred and raised at Buck Pond Farm under the guidance of Doug Arnold.
The magical 300 acres of lush pastures serves as the ideal setting for raising champion racehorses. Continious upgraded to our facilities provide the safest surroundings for every horse. We are currently installing new, diamond-mesh wire fencing and will soon begin rebuilding all of the barns. With over 35 paddocks, great forage and a deep tradition of champion racehorses gliding over this same land there is no better place to raise horses.
Breaking
How would you like to have your yearling broken by the same exercise rider that has broke Breeder's Cup Classic and Juvenile champions as well as several Triple Crown contenders? Look no further than Buck Pond Farm's Joe McSorley, who performed his apprenticeship in Ireland and serves as the farms exercise rider. McSorley has worked for the likes of Hall of Fame Trainer Charlie Whittingham and owner Madeline Paulson and his 25 years of experience in the horse industry is a major plus to Buck Pond Farm and our clients.
Pedigree Consulting and Private Acquisitions
No one can buy and sell the way Owner Doug Arnold does. If you are looking to buy or sell, he can get you what you're looking for at the right price. His invaluable pedigree knowledge has led to some big payoffs. The acquisition of Doneraile Court in 2000, as well as his selling in 2004, again brought Buck Pond to the center stage of the breeding world. Bernstein, a leading Freshman Sire of 2004 was the next big stallion to call Buck Pond home. After a sensational start of ten winners from fourteen starters, the big farms came knocking again and Bernstein would eventually be sold to a nearby farm in Lexington. Buck Pond has added three new stallions to its 2005 roster, all of which contain the necessary ingredients for sire success. Looking for a little speed, Doug added Morluc to the stallion arsenal in 2004. Never hurts to have the fastest horse of his generation, a million dollar earner and a Churchill Downs record holder on the farm. After breeding and raising G2 winner March Magic, it was a no-brainer to purchase his sire, Evansville Slew. Doug did just that, buying this solid, versatile stallion in the spring of 2004. With almost $6 million dollars in progeny earnings, 84 winners from 97 starters, this big guy moves his mares way up and with a stud fee of $3,500, he is by far the best value in the country. Also new in 2005 is Lost Soldier and Kissin' Kris these former leading Florida sires will be welcomed additions for Kentucky Breeders.
Sales Representation
It was a banner year for Buck Pond consignments in 2004. With a newly developed feed program and a hands-on sales prep philosophy Buck Pond consigned the highest priced Bernstein and Doneraile Court yearlings at the Keeneland September sale. Things would only get better as the focus turned to the Keeneland November sale, selling the highest priced Thunder Gulch, Victory Gallop and Woodman weanlings. With all of the recent success, top buyers will make Buck Pond one of the first stops on their lists.
Vet Care
Buck Pond Farm is just minutes away from some of the finest equine clinics and hospitals in the world. Dr. Ernie Martinez serves as the staff veterinarian, providing daily care for all horses at Buck Pond Farm.
